Welcome to Clementi Town
Bukit Batok | Bukit Panjang | Choa Cku Kang - Teck Whye | Jurong
Historical Origins The Clementi area is named after Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, Governor of the Straits
Settlements and High Commissioner during the period 1887-1893. An accomplished Chinese scholar, he had spent most of his career in
the East and was so well liked by the Chinese community that when he left Singapore in 1893, they petitioned for him to continue as
Governor for another term.
The development of Clementi Town began in 1975 and lasted till 1979. It was the 8th town to be developed by the HDB. Before development,
part of Clementi was a swampland. The other part was occupied by kampongs and villages (squatter-type homes), backyard trades,
cottage industries and farms.

Location and Layout Jurong Town is located in the Western Region of Singapore, and is bounded by
Clementi Road to the east; the Pan Island Expressway to north; Sungei Ulu Pandan to the west; and West Coast Park to the south.
Bordering Clementi Town to the west is Jurong Town. To the north lies
Bukit Batok Town.

Transport Facilites
Clementi Town is served by Clementi MRT station, and by Clementi Bus Interchange. It has excellent public transportation links
including the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) to the north.

Housing Options Clementi Town is a mature housing estate with excellent amenities for living, work and
play. It offers a good selection of low, medium and high-density housing. Being a mature town, the majority of the HDB flats are
3-room types, followed by 4-room.
There are plans to renew and build on the existing infrastructure and amenities. Also, to encourage more people to live closer to their
parents and form stronger family bonds, more new homes will be built on available pockets of vacant land within the town.

Town Amenities & Attractions Clementi Town is well supported by community facilities such as schools,
places of worship, the Clementi Community Children's Library and the Clementi Polyclinic.
The Town Centre is a major focal point within the town. It houses a transportation hub comprising of the Clementi MRT station and the
Clementi Bus Interchange. The Clementi Stadium, West Coast Recreation Center, Clementi Sports Hall and Clementi Swimming Complex are
also located in the town centre. This very active and bustling town centre with its myriad shops, cinemas, food centres and other
facilities serves as the main hub of activities.
There are no major shopping complexes in Clementi Town save for Ginza Plaza (next to Clementi Woods Park).
To provide more greens for town residents to relax in, an extension has been proposed for the existing 12 ha
Clementi Woods Park
(located next to Ginza Plaza).
